Clover & Thrush Tattoo and Art Emporium in downtown Brattleboro, VT is a queer owned and operated studio that strives to provide a safe, welcoming space specifically catering to and prioritizing the LGBTQIA+ community, women, and anyone else who feels marginalized in a “traditional” tattoo shop environment. Our focus is to create a studio where everyone feels comfortable expressing themselves through body art.

We believe that Art is for Every Body, no one is illegal on stolen land, Black Lives Matter, trans people are magic, 🖕🧊, no genocide anywhere, and everything is political, including owning a business.

If you love art and all of the above, let’s be friends!

Sarah E. Rice

Co-owner and tattoo artist

Sarah is a co-owner and tattoo artist at Clover & Thrush Tattoo, creating in Brattleboro, Vermont - a place she’s called home for over 25 years.

A lifelong artist working across many mediums, Sarah draws inspiration from nature, mythology, and human connection. Her roots in the local arts community run deep, including years spent co-owning a gallery that featured over 200 artists and creators.

She works primarily in an illustrative style, while remaining highly versatile - shifting approaches to meet each piece and each person where they are. For Sarah, tattooing is a collaborative and meaningful process, resulting in work that feels personal, expressive, and enduring.

Warm, curious, and people-centered, she is passionate about helping shape a space that feels welcoming, inspiring, and just a little bit magical.
